As the Wedding & Social Events Manager in the Sales, Groups and Events department at the Andaz London, I am responsible for the whole Wedding & Social segment within the hotel. This is a varied role which includes responding, negotiating and converting Wedding or Social event enquiries, planning and invoicing each event, pro-actively reaching out to previous bookers, piloting new websites and other marketing avenues, constantly looking for opportunities to showcase the venue for weddings and social events.

My main responsibility is to generate awareness of the Andaz London Hotel to increase the number of wedding and social events year on year. One of the most important tasks is to keep track, on a regular basis, the progress of each segment so it gives a clear overall picture and will determine what we need to do to get to where we want to be. This means converting the right business for the hotel to ensure we hit our goals and leading the team on my segment to ensure this happens. I put together the Wedding / Christmas figures each month so I can actively see the bookings we are converting. I mainly respond to enquiries, convert business and plan the entire event up until invoicing. One of the easiest ways to convert business is to continuously build and work on my client relationships (one of the best parts!). Having a good relationship with the bookers makes the conversion and planning an easier process. Andaz ensures I have all of the tools to effectively manage my relationships and bookings.

As well as social events I also offer Wedding only bedroom reduced rates, we have great relationships with venues in the area that do not have bedrooms and they offer our accommodation services, this is a great way to contribute to the occupancy levels at our quietest times (weekends), we also offer this amazing rate for in house weddings.

A huge part of the role is working closely with other departments in the hotel. Of course, I work very closely with the event sales, operations and chefs but we also liaise with front office, housekeeping and the restaurants on a regular basis to ensure events and site visits are communicated thoroughly. The event sales team are from a range of backgrounds and such a motivated group of people – we are all different but have the same goals to work towards and the office environment is always buzzing.

I am given the independence to plan my day and tasks as I wish – that is one of the great things about working with Andaz, you are given the autonomy to be yourself and not fit a generic mould. I get the opportunity to develop myself by working on projects and also assist with training the team on selling for the festive period via diary management. I work with the revenue and marketing teams too and therefore get a full insight of the full hotel sales process.

I love my position here and the fast paced office environment – no day is the same! I communicate with clients through telephone or email and also get to meet them during site visits. Working at Andaz is not being a simple employee in the hospitality industry, it is working with a family who care about people so they can be their best; they encourage the fact that everyone has a different personality, and everyone comes together to do a great job.
