Hyatt Director of Finance in CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia


Located in Charlottesville’s historic downtown, the Quirk Hotel is the first boutique art hotel to beautifully interweave chic with vintage. The main hotel adjacent to two historic homes dating back to the 19th century.

Two restaurants appease the palate while communal hubs like the rooftop bar and lounge, art gallery and outdoor lawn bring locals and guests together for impromptu mingling. While the Quirk’s amenities are on point, the hotel’s signature touch is the guestroom headboards designed by Kiki Slaughter and original works of art from renowned artists.

The house at 501 West Main St offers a quaint coffee shop on the ground level, while the upstairs will be home to Charlottesville’s most expansive whiskey bar, featuring private reserve and locally distilled whiskies. The house at 503 Main Street features an upscale salon on the main floor and a private room and suite upstairs.

The Quirk is set to open in March and is seeking a Director of Finance who is an inherent leader both in the hotel and in the community. You will be a curious, organized and engaged leader that excels in communication. This role is a great opportunity to join and lead in a vibrant growing brand.

As a member of the property's Leadership Committee, the Director of Finance is a highly visible role with exposure to senior and corporate leadership. This position reports to the hotel General Manager.

The Director of Finance plans, organizes, directs, and leads the accounting and control function, reports operational results, and provides guidance to division leaders.

Duties include:

  • Long and short term planning and leadership of the Finance function

  • Manage and lead hotel on-site accounting functions to ensure proper fiscal management, timely and accurate reporting and analysis for the hotel. This includes hotel financial planning, budgeting, accounting and cash management.

  • Assist in nurturing the critical relationship with property owners. Be responsible for supervising and coordinating owner reporting as required. Provide custom reports, respond quickly to questions or requests and participate in meetings with ownership.

  • Manage SOX compliance

  • Coordinate and Complete audits, including year-end - through to final audit approval.

  • Review and approve all reconciliations and audit work papers.

  • Prepare and review all monthly and annual financial statements. Investigate, review and analyze the variance explanations, involving the division leaders in this process.

  • Support operational efforts and budgetary needs by taking initiative to recommend and manage costs and revenue enhancement

  • Develop hotel leader capabilities in developing financial acumen, including identifying alternatives/solutions to concerns, and operating in a manner that mirrors Hyatt's Leadership profile.

  • Aid in the preparation and final review of the annual business plan

  • Maintain department budget

  • Have a sound understanding of the hotel operational and back office systems as well as Microsoft Office products

  • Have a sound understanding of the forecasting system and the tools from Revenue Management. Review monthly and quarterly property financial forecasts. Ensure that the forecast is attainable.

  • Work closely with Corporate Finance function

  • Coach and counsel colleagues to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures

  • Valued member of Hotel Leadership Committee

  • 5 years or more of progressive hotel Finance experience

  • Previous hotel pre-opening experience preferred

  • Service oriented style with professional presentations skills

  • Hospitality or Accounting degree preferred

  • Must possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, effective communicator, effective in providing exceptional customer service and ability to improve the bottom line

  • Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Must be an advanced user of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
