Hyatt Associate Manager of Business Innovation in CHICAGO, Illinois


Key responsibilities: At Hyatt, our purpose is to care for people so that they can be their best. The Strategy and Innovation team believes that care begins with empathy for our guests who experience our destinations and colleagues who facilitate these experiences. Because of this we use Human Centered Design to facilitate the creation and delivery of guest experiences that drive guest preference to our hotels around the globe. This position will bridge strategy and implementation, offering opportunity to work on multi-disciplinary teams and lead different types of initiatives including generative “blue sky,” rapid prototyping and user feedback, and qualitative and quantitative efforts that bring confidence and move ideas closer to operational sustainability.

The ideal candidate is driven by insatiable and empathic curiosity, able to develop captivating stories, and has a genuine passion for data and its role in sustainable operations.

Specific activities related to the execution of activities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Engage with multiple stakeholders within the organization and third party providers to perform and facilitate o Assessing opportunities, priorities and key pain points o Identifying pipelines of solutions that address the problem o Defining clear innovation roadmap, detailed action plans and milestones o Calibrating business outcomes, at regular intervals

  • Provide throughout leadership for innovation enablers such as storytelling, industry expertise, process engineering, analytics

  • Inspire colleagues and support execution of innovation efforts to achieve outcomes

  • Share stories of experimentation success and failure to inspire change throughout the organization

  • Design, build, and manage project plans



  • Preferred bachelor’s degree or higher in Hotel Management, Industrial Design, Marketing, Information Systems, Human Computer Interaction, or related field

  • Preferred minimum 2 years’ experience including management or project management experience

  • Preferred minimum 5 years’ experience in a client facing or consultative role

  • Preferred 5 or more years of progressive work experience within Hotel Operations or Customer Service role. We seek multiple candidates with from varied backgrounds of hotel operation, such as Food and Beverage, Front of House Rooms, Back of House Rooms.

  • Exposure to Hotel Operations or similar Customer Service role

  • Familiarity with design thinking approach

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills

  • Comfortable in an ambiguous work environment

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to influence without authority

    Regular travel (50-75%) is expected domestically and globally, but may change with business conditions.
