Hyatt Director, Global Product Design in CHICAGO, Illinois

As Global Product Design Director, you will envision, define, and design user interfaces, architecture, and interaction design patters for end-to-end digital guest experiences across the globe. This role will work collaboratively with Engineering and Product leaders to deliver simple, fast, delightful, and distinct experiences to guests worldwide via our digital platforms. The ideal candidate is a creative, passionate, pragmatic thinker that can identify opportunities to solve problems and analyze customer behaviors to create innovative experiences in a fast-paced environment. The Global Product Design Director will play a pivotal role in driving designs that drive effective business outcomes to optimize existing digital experiences in a portion of the guest experience journey.
Ideal candidates will have experience breaking down walls between design, engineering, and product leadership. This professional will play a pivotal role in making sure design has a seat at the table throughout the product lifecycle. This role will partner closely with leadership in engineering and product management, as well as data analytics leadership, to elevate the global guest experience across Hyatt's web and mobile products.
Reporting to the Vice President of Global Digital Product Design, this professional must posses strong design leadership skills and has experience managing teams of 4 or more designers. The ideal candidate would be able to think strategically about the acquisition, conversion, and retention of existing guests. This role will be heavily involved in setting a vision for the guest journey and aligning the teams to work closely to achieve that vision with day-to-day practices. He/she will also be very effective in communicating the vision using storytelling and persuasion techniques across different teams and leaders within the organization.
* * Responsibilities * Manage a team of four to six mid to senior level Product Designers across a full portfolio of digital products * Evangelize Lean/Agile Design methodologies throughout the organization by establishing partnerships with Engineering & Product Management to design meaningful, impactful metrics-driven solutions * Normalize and define expectations of experience quality across product teams * Develop & influence experience strategy and roadmaps while working with and managing feedback from multiple stakeholders across digital teams and executive leadership * Lead and define overarching design patterns and systems related to end-to-end traveler journey * Conduct qualitative research/interaction design/visual design coaching to product teams in order to build a backlog based on discovery activities solving guest experience needs * Be comfortable in a fast-paced, iterative, experimental, and data-driven environment * Simultaneously manage multiple initiatives with competing priorities across the teams simultaneously by applying the right level of effort and care * Evolve the operating model by identifying key opportunities to increase productivity and quality of engagement within the product teams * Hire and assess key design talent needs across teams he/she is accountable for. * * Experience * 10 years of experience as an experience designer, interaction designer, product designer or similar role designing mobile, web, and/or other on-device applications * At least 5 years of experience managing teams of designers and working with cross-functional teams * Strong web (mobile & desktop) and mobile experience with eCommerce background preferred * Experience leading product design thinking practices and tools in agile teams to drive lean mindset * Demonstrated expertise in hypothesis-driven, continuous learning and experimentation * Experience evolving the design and discovery process of modern product development with qualitative and quantitative research insights * Proven track record of delivering large-scale, strategic design initiatives with a bias toward scalable systems and patterns across the digital platform * Can inspire, motivate by example, and help manage change in the team and across a broader organization * Experience presenting to senior leadership, and effectively engaging external vendors in design work, when needed * Experience working with experiences that interact with international customers desired * Hotel or airline experience desired * Other work as required
Education * Bachelor's degree required * Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)/Product Design/Human Factors/Design preferred
