Hyatt Cook 1 - Entry Level in INDIAN WELLS, California

Job Summary The cook 1 will be required to perform basic culinary tasks and preparations. Fundamental knife work such as cutting vegetables and fruits, slicing meats, making salads and dressings, making sandwiches and other cold preparations, organizing and maintaining a clean work area, assisting others as needed, and learning basic cooking and presentation skills. Also learning product handling and identification, and various ethnic variations of commonly prepared meals.

Education Requirements High school or equivalent. Culinary training at a formal institution is beneficial but not required. Experience Requirements

Some exposure to commercial food service is desired. That may include fast food outlets, chain restaurants, institutional cooking or volunteer cooking. Dishwashing and basic preparation experience is also beneficial.

Personal Characteristics The successful Candidate for Cook 1 will be clean, neatly attired, well groomed, polite but engaging, warm, hospitable and energetic.Enthusiasm for the position should be apparent. Timeliness, dependability and reliability are critical personal qualities. An inquisitive nature is a plus. Skill and Knowledge Requirements 1. Ability to speak and or read and write basic English language. 2. Fundamental knife skill, and must provide knives. 3. Must understand common kitchen terms and usage. 4. Basic exposure to commercial kitchen equipment. 5. Basic understanding of ingredients and products. 6. Basic Mathematics and ability to read recipes. Food Handlers card and understanding of Food Safety fundamentals will be required within 90 days of hire. Job Responsibilities and Tasks 1. Must be able to lift, pull or push at least 50 lbs. repeatedly. 2. Must be able to work in very hot and cold environments, often sequentially. 3.

Cutting, chopping, specialty vegetable and fruit peeling and cutting. Cleaning and organization of work area and general kitchen areas. Producing ala carte orders as required by circumstances. Working as an engaged team member, always offering assistance and requesting as needed. Reporting to work on time and in uniform routinely. Following departmental policy and procedures. Maintaining a positive and energetic demeanor. Learning to operate, and clean commercial food service equipment. Develop knowledge of, and skill with all fundamental processes of cookery.

4. Provide guest service in a timely, friendly and engaging manner. 5. Maintain a clean, well-groomed and properly uniformed appearance.
