Hyatt Cook 2 - Intermediate Line (Full Time) in INDIAN WELLS, California
The cook 2 will be required to perform basic culinary tasks and preparations. Confident knife work skills such as cutting vegetables and fruits, slicing meats, making salads and dressings, making sandwiches and other cold preparations, organizing and maintaining a clean work area, assisting others as needed, and learning basic cooking and presentation skills. Also learning product handling and identification, and various ethnic variations of commonly prepared meals. Ala carte experience maintaining a unique station in a restaurant. Some supervision will be required.
High school or equivalent. Culinary training at a formal institution is beneficial but not required. One to two years’ experience in high volume commercial cookery is required.
One to two years’ experience, either in a high volume restaurant or a similar commercial kitchen. Ala carte cooking experience a plus.
The successful Candidate for Cook 1 will be clean, neatly attired, well groomed, polite but engaging, warm, hospitable and energetic. Enthusiasm for the position should be apparent. Timeliness, dependability and reliability are critical personal qualities. An inquisitive nature is a plus.
Skill and Knowledge Requirements
Ability to speak, read and write in English.
Well-developed knife skills, including all standard cuts.
Good understanding of common kitchen terminology and usage.
Good understanding of, and ability to use all commercial equipment.
Good and increasingly strong product and ingredient identification, handling and usage.
Basic Mathematic skill and ability to read and produce recipes unsupervised. Food handlers card and understanding of Food safety fundamentals within 90 days of Employment.
Job Responsibilities and Tasks
Must be able to lift, pull or push at least 50 lbs. repeatedly.
Must be able to work in very hot and cold environments, often sequentially.
Cutting, chopping, specialty vegetable and fruit peeling and cutting. Cleaning and organization of work area and general kitchen areas. Producing ala carte orders as required by circumstances. Working as an engaged team member, always offering assistance and requesting as needed. Reporting to work on time and in uniform routinely. Following departmental policy and procedures. Maintaining a positive and energetic demeanor. Learning to operate, and clean commercial food service equipment. Develop knowledge of, and skill with all fundamental processes of cookery.
Provide guest service in a timely, friendly and engaging manner.
Maintain a clean, well-groomed and properly uniformed appearance.
