Hyatt Spa Director in ISLE OF PALMS, South Carolina

Summary : The Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the spa and fitness operations and integration within the Resort. He/ She will lead the staff to provide the highest quality services and products. The Director will be held accountable for spa revenues and profitability and completion of the established annual Business Plan and marketing initiatives. He/ she will serve as a department head and assure effective communication with all colleagues and guests.

The Director shall always strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests. He/ She will be responsible for exemplifying the Wild Dunes Resort Culture as well as promoting Wild Dunes Resort as both the Destination and Employer of Choice!

Essential job Functions :

  • Participation in the annual Spa Business Plan and budget.

  • Establish spa operating criteria. Provide the necessary training manuals, training plans, spa programming and communication with spa staff, hotel staff, sub-contractors and vendors.

  • Activate the new spa to appeal to new segments, including wellness-travelers, Spa Members and locals, through regularly scheduled social spa programs, spa events, and wellness classes.

  • Daily analyses of financial results with regular assessment of revenue achievement, guest utilization, labor and other expense controls in relation to the monthly forecast.

  • Be actively involved in spa related marketing, strategies, promotional activities and implementation along with the hotel director of sales and marketing.

  • Development and continual review of objectives, services, standards, activities, spa programming, menus, retail products and cost, staffing and training.

  • Hire and train all spa staff and provide timely performance reviews. Assure objective measurement standards by which to evaluate performance.

  • Ensure that established service standards are continually achieved. Guest service is expected to exceed expectations.

  • Cleanliness and maintenance must be held to the highest standards. Ensure that all spa equipment operates at optimum performance.

  • Ensure that the spa staff has all the supplies they need to accomplish service objectives. To include but not limited to linen, terry, all treatment related products and supplies, food and beverage etc.

  • Inspire creativity and a collegiate team spirit amongst the staff. Creative ideas and proactive thinking is expected.

  • Control all product inventories and assure adequate par levels are always maintained. This includes product selection, ordering, receiving, storage, regular inventories and security.

  • Control all marketing materials including brochures, menus, gift certificates, etc.

  • Remain actively involved in staff training and regular retraining, especially emergency procedures.

  • Devise and implement unique services and offerings for our guests to exceed our guest expectations.

  • Work closely with engineering team to ensure the highest quality spa is presented daily to our guests.

  • Meeting attendance will be expected within the hotel to facilitate regular communication with all departments. Meetings such as Staff Meeting, Sales Meeting, Yield Meeting, Revenue, etc.

  • The Director will be expected to have a cooperative spirit in order to gain support from other areas.

  • Regular communication with the Director of Sports that will likely include a financial and operational review, project progress and weekly facility walkthroughs can be expected.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving clients and operational issues maintaining a positive attitude.

  • Direct performance of assigned staff and follow up with corrections where needed.

  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • The director will be expected to provide strong, spirited leadership to the staff and therefore must have proven abilities as a leader. Public speaking to small groups of colleagues, managers or guests can also be expected. The director should possess a strong, independent work ethic, have a good eye for detail and quality orientation.

  • Address and resolve colleague problems to insure smooth operation of the department.

Colleague is held accountable for all duties of this job and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience & Education :

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Prior spa management experience in a 4 or 5 Diamond property.

  • Comprehensive understanding of fitness and spa industry

  • Background in merchandising or increasing revenue preferred

Job Requirements :

  • Strong competencies in financial analyses and exceptional customer service.

  • Hotel operations experience will be required to properly interface with the many departments.

  • Knowledge of contracts and agreements will be necessary to work with many product vendors, service providers and therapists that may not be on Resort payroll.

  • Computer skills in basic Microsoft Office programs are expected.

  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

  • Must have a strong passion for assisting guests in attaining their beauty and wellness goals

  • Must be able to work well under pressure

  • Must be able to learn the product and service knowledge necessary to effectively provide wellness solutions to meet the needs of our guests

  • Must be able to accurately follow instructions, both verbally and written

  • Must be highly detailed orientated

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment

  • Must have excellent listening skills

  • Must possesses excellent communication skills

  • Must be professional in appearance and demeanor

  • Must always ensure a teamwork environment

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends and holidays

  • Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the guests and Colleagues

  • Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner

  • Must have a passion for creating an exceptional experience for all guests

Working Conditions :

  • Must be able to stand on feet throughout the day, with intermittent periods of walking

  • Must be able to walk stand, bend at the waist, sit at a desk reach with arms.

  • Must be able to lift & carry, or pull up to 50 lbs occasionally

  • Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, squeezing and repetitive hand & arm movements constantly
