Located in the Library District of downtown Kansas City, the Hotel Kansas City is located in the historic location of the Kansas City Club. Founded in 1882, the club was one of two surviving private city clubs on the Missouri side of Kansas City until it closed in 2015.

The Hotel Kansas City will bring back the exclusive feeling of the building's past, combined with the warm welcome of your favorite watering hole. In addition to the hotel's 144 guest rooms are the Town Company, a three-meal restaurant; El Gold, a live music cellar cocktail bar; and a lobby lounge and bar that will bring locals and guests together for impromptu mingling. For the event minded guests, there will be 20,000 feet of meeting space that includes impressive historic ballrooms and a 3,000 square foot rooftop event patio.

El Goldis downtown Kansas City’s first cellar saloon with live music and craft cocktails. Taking inspiration from the Wild West and bringing it into modern times, the room will pulsate with a variety of music offerings, table and floor games, local beers, carefully considered cocktails, and a hefty spirit selection. With seating up to 100 guests and a private nook for small groups, El Gold plans to be a regular stop for Kansas City locals and visitors exploring downtown.

The culinary program at El Gold is helmed by local chef and partner, Patrick Ryan, who brings Executive Chef Johnny Leach to Kansas City via Portland, Oregon. El Gold’s bites will be rustic yet meticulously crafted versions of familiar offerings you have seen in plenty of bars, but not like this and not with these ingredients.

Job Overview

El Gold’sBeverage Director is a Department Head position and will be responsible in managing the day-to-day operations of the space. The Beverage Director is an integral part of the hotel’s overall Food and Beverage team.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Supportingand managing El Gold whileworking closely with the Food & Beverage Director and other hoteldepartments.

  • Beverageprogram development, implementation and evolution.

  • Buildrelationships with suppliers, vendors, makers, guests and the community.

  • Createsustainable programs that maximize our abilities to be effective humans.

  • Devisehigh-level training initiatives for all staff.

  • Responsiblefor the short and long term planning of the bar/restaurant.

  • Leadand coach team towards achieving exceptional guest services andcolleague satisfaction results.

  • Fullunderstanding of Colleague engagement.

  • Developand implement creative strategies for revenue enhancement and costcontainment.

  • Responsiblefor maintaining a high energy, positive, professional appearance.

  • Plan,coordinate & manage special events and holiday functions.

  • Abilityto take the initiative to run the outlet as a free standing entity.

  • Maximize food and beveragedepartment profitability; implement effective controls of food, beverage, andlabor costs and monitor El Gold’s budget to ensure efficient operations,including achieving budgeted revenue and labor expenses.

  • Hire, train, supervise, develop,discipline, counsel, and evaluate restaurant supervisors and colleaguesaccording to Hotel Kansas City’s policies and procedures.

  • Regularly review and evaluatethe degree of customer satisfaction of El Gold; recommend new marketingand/or operational policies and procedures when necessary to keep up withdemand and market changes; investigate and resolve food quality and servicecomplaints.

  • Ensure compliance with allcompany policies and procedures to relate to the restaurant, as well aslocal, state and federal laws and regulations; maintain cleanliness andproper sanitation of all work and service areas.

  • Develop, implement and marketnew and creative menus to attract a pre-determined customer market; promotethe cross-selling of other hotel outlets.

  • Participate in the developmentof the annual budget for El Gold; develop short and long term financialoperating plans.

  • Attend mandatory meetingsincluding divisional meetings, executive meetings, colleague meetings, etc.

  • Participate in Manager on Dutycoverage program, which may require occasional weekend stayovers.

  • Participate in community publicrelations for the El Gold and hotel.

  • Utilize traditional softwareprograms such as Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and/or Outlook.

  • Keep work area clean andorganized.

  • Demonstrate positive leadershipcharacteristics which inspire colleagues to meet and exceed standards.

  • Other tasks/duties as assignedby Food & Beverage Director or General Manager.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Highschool diploma or GED equivalency.

  • 4year college degree preferred.

  • Mustobtain Kansas City Liquor License.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years in food andbeverage restaurant management required.

  • Previous and proven experiencecurating successful beverage programs.

  • Food Service Sanitationcertification.

  • CPR Certified required.

  • Thorough knowledge of restaurantoperations including food, beverage, supervisory aspects, service techniques,and guest interaction.

  • Considerable skill in mathequations using percentages.

  • Ability to access and accuratelyinput information using a moderately complex computer system.

Interaction:

  • Ability to communicate in English,both orally and in writing, with guests and colleagues, some of whom willrequire high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and tocollect accurate information and to resolve problems.

  • Ability to work under pressure anddeal with stressful situations during busy periods.

WorkEnvironment

  • Ability to walk, stand, and/orbend continuously to perform essential job functions.

  • Ability to move up to 600lbs.with wheelchair assistance.

  • Ability to lift up to 75lbs. andto lift lighter objects overhead.
