Located in the Library District of downtown Kansas City, the Hotel Kansas City is located in the historic location of the Kansas City Club. Founded in 1882, the club was one of two surviving private city clubs on the Missouri side of Kansas City until it closed in 2015.

The Hotel Kansas City will bring back the exclusive feeling of the building's past, combined with the warm welcome of your favorite watering hole. In addition to the hotel's 144 guest rooms are the Town Company, a three-meal restaurant; El Gold, a live music cellar cocktail bar; and a lobby lounge and bar that will bring locals and guests together for impromptu mingling. For the event minded guests, there will be 20,000 feet of meeting space that includes impressive historic ballrooms and a 3,000 square foot rooftop event patio.

The Town Company is the latest concept from James Beard nominated, Kansas City Chef Patrick Ryan. Guests will experience an open-kitchen with open-hearth cooking and some of the best ingredients that this region has to offer. With only 65 seats, the experience will be intimate for both guests and staff. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week will give locals and hotel guests plenty of opportunity to see the Town Company in action.

The Town Company is a nod to our city’s roots, and those who came before us to claim this town we now call Kansas City. Overseeing the culinary team is our Executive Chef, Johnny Leach, who joins us in Kansas City via Portland, Oregon.

Job Overview

This position is responsible for directing and organizing the activities of our Town Company Restaurant to maintain high standards of food and beverage quality, service and marketing to maximize profits through outstanding customer service.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, assign anddelegate responsibility and authority for all functions of administration andplanning of the Town Company restaurant to meet the daily needs of theoperation.

  • Maximize food and beveragedepartment profitability; implement effective controls of food, beverage, andlabor costs and monitor the restaurants’ budget to ensure efficientoperations, including achieving budgeted revenue and labor expenses.

  • Monitor, develop and implementschedules for the operation of Town Company to achieve a profitable result.

  • Hire, train, supervise, develop,discipline, counsel, and evaluate restaurant supervisors and colleaguesaccording to Hotel Kansas City’s policies and procedures.

  • Regularly review and evaluatethe degree of customer satisfaction of the Town Company restaurant; recommendnew marketing and/or operational policies and procedures when necessary tokeep up with demand and market changes; investigate and resolve food qualityand service complaints.

  • Ensure compliance with allcompany policies and procedures to relate to the restaurant, as well aslocal, state and federal laws and regulations; maintain cleanliness andproper sanitation of all work and service areas.

  • Develop, implement and marketnew and creative menus to attract a pre-determined customer market; promotethe cross-selling of other hotel outlets.

  • Participate in the developmentof the annual budget for the Town Company restaurant; develop short and longterm financial operating plans.

  • Attend mandatory meetingsincluding divisional meetings, executive meetings, colleague meetings, etc.

  • Participate in Manager on Dutycoverage program, which may require occasional weekend stayovers.

  • Participate in community publicrelations for the Town Company restaurant and hotel.

  • Utilize traditional softwareprograms such as Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and/or Outlook.

  • Keep work area clean andorganized.

  • Demonstrate positive leadershipcharacteristics which inspire colleagues to meet and exceed standards.

  • Other tasks/duties as assignedby Food & Beverage Director or General Manager.

Assists in managing single, full-service food and beverage outlet on a daily basis and coordinates special events. May be responsible for staffing, scheduling and training of staff.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Highschool diploma or GED equivalency.

  • 4year college degree preferred.

  • Mustobtain Kansas City Liquor License.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years in food andbeverage restaurant management required.

  • Food Service Sanitationcertification.

  • CPR Certified required.

  • Thorough knowledge of restaurantoperations including food, beverage, supervisory aspects, service techniques,and guest interaction.

  • Considerable skill in mathequations using percentages.

  • Ability to access and accuratelyinput information using a moderately complex computer system.

Interaction:

  • Ability to communicate in English,both orally and in writing, with guests and colleagues, some of whom willrequire high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and tocollect accurate information and to resolve problems.

  • Ability to work under pressure anddeal with stressful situations during busy periods.

WorkEnvironment

  • Ability to walk, stand, and/orbend continuously to perform essential job functions.

  • Ability to move up to 600lbs.with wheelchair assistance.

  • Ability to lift up to 75lbs. andto lift lighter objects overhead.
