Hyatt Hiking/Mountain Biking Guide - On-Call in TUCSON, Arizona

Under the general direction of the Outdoor Adventure Manager is accountable for the following; facilitating hiking and mountain biking programs, assist in maintaining all hiking/biking equipment. The Hiking and Biking Guide will be required to be a team player and report all guest services issues. The Hiking and Biking Guide is to assist the hiking and biking team members with daily operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership and lead/tail on all hiking, mountain biking.

  • Lead/Tail client/groups of 1-8 on daily instructional mountain biking activities.

  • Lead/Tail client/groups of 1-12 on daily hiking activities.

  • Assist in the facilitation of programs for social groups in hiking and mountain biking.

  • Assist in maintaining all hiking/biking equipment.

Provide guests with 1:1 hiking and mountain biking.

  • Hike 3-4 mile/hour pace, miles ranging from 2-14 miles traveled.

  • Mountain biking, 10-15 mile/hour pace, miles ranging from 5-20 miles traveled.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of Miraval Philosophy preferred.

  • 2 years’ experience in facilitation and guiding preferred.

  • 2 years hiking and mountain biking recreationally/guiding experience preferred.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret retail product labeling. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization.

    REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must make decisions in the best interest of the guests, their safety and must be made within the guidelines of department standard operating procedures and Miraval policies and procedures.

The Hiking and Biking Guide must be able to hike for extended periods, and do so on average 6-12 miles/day, one to several days per week. Must be proficient mountain biker, averaging 5-15 miles/day, one to several days per week (preferred).

The Hiking and Biking Guide is exposed to seasonal temperatures, both hot and cold. Activities are operated from mornings to afternoons and sometimes evenings. All activities are facilitated in the outdoors.
