Hyatt On-Call Banquet Captain at Manor Vail Lodge in VAIL, Colorado

Description:

*Summary: *Supervises and coordinates activities of banquet servers during functions to ensure that food and beverage is served promptly by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Additional duties may be assigned in conjunction with the growth of the business.

Consults the Catering & Conference Services Manager on banquet standards.

Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag when working.

Main point of contact for all group leaders and event guests/attendees when the event is taking place.

Maintains positive relationships with all departments throughout the hotel – communicating effectively between each.

Responsible for ordering table linen, non-alcoholic beverages and any items needed on upcoming Banquet Event Orders.

Able to carry heavy trays of food, dirty dishes silverware& glasses.

Conducts a monthly inventory of all linen, china, glassware, silverware, and non-alcoholic beverages while rotating perishibles.

Convey Banquet Event Order instructions to all necessary personnel, by leading pre-shift line ups, going over food, beverage and flow of service.

Supervise standardized set-up procedures and break down procedures for each service –ensures all outlets are left in the appropriate condition (closets, breakfast room, dish pits, lawn etc).

Attend weekly BEO meetings, review events ahead of time and develop and distribute training materials for all service related positions to ensure food and beverage quality service.

Create the banquet staffing schedule and distribute in a timely manner while approving and recording shift changes.

Monitor staffing levels for each event to ensure labor efficiencies.

Be knowledgeable of all banquet and audio/visual equipment and material that is offered by Manor Vail.

Responsible for banquet function orchestration by ensuring proper timing and coordination with Chef.

Ensure banquet/meeting rooms, conference space and support space isalwaysin presentable condition (i.e. clean, all light bulbs in working order, furniture properly arranged, lights turned off when not in use, maintenance done on a timely basis, etc.)

Meet and greet group leaders by attending pre and post con meetings.

Understand the HotSOS system and submit/defer orders as Banquet Event Orders are distributed.

Inspect rooms according to BEO before every function including placement of tableware, condition of linen etc.

Inspect uniforms & pre-assign duties.

Use consumption sheets& fill out captain report for every event.

Work flexible hours on weekly basis.

Must be willing to supplement hours by working with other outlets or second code such as house attendant & banquet supervisor.

Posting Banquet Checks to Master Account as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of or the ability to learn Microsoft Office Products; Timesaver system; and MICROS Software.

Certificates and Licenses:

Be TIPS certified. Assure that all applicable federal and local food and beverage guidelines and requirements are met (ie, liquor laws are enforced, safe food handling of food, proper storage of equipment, sanitation etc.)

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise employees in the Banquet Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; enforcing grooming and uniform standards for staff and assure they meet these standards without exception.
